COVID-19 Strikes Down Former Amsterdam Mohawk Player  (Updated)

GoFundMe fundraiser in Ben Luderer’s memory has surpassed its $30,000 goal in the four days since it was launched. As of 7 p.m. on April 7, 329 donors have raised $34,180. The fundraiser is jointly organized by the Marist College Women's Basketball and Marist Baseball Alumni. Luderer graduated from Marist in 2013. The money will go to the Ben Luderer Memorial Fund which will “ continue his legacy within the community with his beloved wife Brandy.”

CSBN is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ben Luderder, a member of the 2009 Amsterdam Mohawks team. Luderder, 30, died earlier this week as a result of complications of COVID-19.

Luderder was a catcher for the 2009 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League champion Amsterdam Mohawks. That season, they went 36-12 en route to their first league championship since 2004.

A freshman at Marist College, he started five games behind the plate and appeared in four more. In 17 plate appearances, Luderder averaged .235, and recorded four hits.

Following his time with the Mohawks, Luderder continued his career with Marist before returning home to New Jersey where he was a coach and teacher in the Cliffside Park community.

Posts in Luderder’s memory have appeared on Twitter and Instagram, including some from the Marist College baseball team, Cliffside Park School District, and Phil Murphy, the governor of New Jersey.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Luderder family, and all of those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
